The Western Balkans Info Hub (previously known as WBC-RTI.info platform http://wbc-rti.info/) acts as a source of high quality targeted information on research, technology and innovation but also education, culture, youth and sports in, with and for the Western Balkans (WB).

The core objectives of the Information Platform are:

  • to support dissemination of high quality information via the website, monthly thematic newsletters and social media (Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter)
  • to provide analytical support on specific thematic issues
  • to support the bi-regional dialogue on science, technology, education, culture and innovation by benefiting from and interacting with the WB Steering Platforms on Research and Innovation & Education and Culture.

The platform is supported by the project POLICY ANSWERS, funded under the Horizon Europe programme for research and innovation. POLICY ANSWERS - R&I POLICY making, implementation ANd Support in the WEsteRn BalkanS was launched on 1 March 2022 for a period of four years. This new initiative is funded under the Horizon Europe call “Support for R&I policy making in the Western Balkans" (HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ACCESS-06-01) and it is positioned well in line with the EU’s Western Balkans Agenda on Innovation, Research, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport (WB Innovation Agenda), outlining a comprehensive, long-term strategy for cooperation with the region, including an Action Plan for its implementation. Through increased investments, its elements and measures will contribute to the economic and societal development and cooperation in and with the region.

The WB Info Hub acts as a source of high quality targeted information on research, technology, education, culture and innovation in, with and for the WB.
It contributes to a dialogue between the EU and the region and to the integration of the WBs' research and innovation systems into the European Research Area (ERA).
Furthermore, this website continues to support the Steering Platforms on Research and Innovation & Education and Culture for the Western Balkans by publishing progress reports, reviews and conclusions from the meetings.

Western Balkan Info Hub (2022) Policy Answers Leaflet. ABSTRACT: The project is funded by Horizon Europe to support a be!er integration of the Western Balkans and the bi-regional dialogue on science, innovation, education and culture. The project continues and scales up the common efforts of the European Union and the Western Balkans – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo (This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and is in line with UNSCR 1244 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence), Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia – for cooperation on Research, Innovation, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport. The goal is to ultimately foster stability and prosperity while strengthening the European perspective of the region. Led by the Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) in Vienna and involving 13 partner institutions, the project follows up on the work carried out in various previous initiatives.
