Erlantz Lizundia and Maite Maguregui, both professors at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), as PIs of ENCLOSURE project (Grant TED2021-129299A-I00 financed in the context of the 2021 Ecological and Digital Transition Call from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation support of EU Next GenerationEU/PRTR funds)  offer a 1-year contract (possible extension to a 2nd year) for a postdoctoral researcher with experience in the field of development of materials applied to the conservation of Cultural Heritage. We will also consider candidates with high experience in materials science, who are willing to engage in the field of Cultural Heritage.

The successful candidate will join the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the UPV/EHU and will work in an interdisciplinary laboratory at the Bizkaia Campus. The selected person should start their activity not before the first two weeks of January 2023.

Profile of the candidate:

  • A PhD degree in chemistry, materials science, or other STEM disciplines, preferably applied to cultural heritage, conservation of cultural heritage, or similar
  • Strong interest and curiosity in combining materials science, analytical chemistry and conservation of Cultural Heritage
  • Motivation to pursue an academic career
  • Good active command of English (oral and written). Knowledge of Spanish is a plus but not mandatory.

Job description:

You will contribute to the development and application of green materials, mainly based on nanocelulloses, for the conservation of Cultural Heritage. In the framework of the project, you will also learn about the life cycle analysis of such materials.

A Postdoctoral Researcher contract in a highly dynamic and friendly research group in a stimulating intellectual environment. We are an interdisciplinary group working at the intersection of different areas of sciences. In the context of ENCLOSURE, you will be able to interact with researchers from UPV/EHU, Instituto de Nanociencia y Nanomateriales de Aragón (INMA-CSIC), Universitat de Barcelona, University of Oslo, Stockholm University and ETH Zurich. Some institutions such as SIK-ISEA, V&A and Musée Départemental Arles Antique, among others will also be considered as potential testers of the developed materials.

The successful applicant will have the chance to experience the life in the Basque Country, one of the Spanish autonomous communities with the most varied landscape, offering – at the same time –unique local gastronomy.

Salary: minium of 2600 €/month (gross salary, before taxes) in 14 months installments per year.
