Presentation

OLIVE4ALL is based on the idea of raising awareness of sustainable development through heritage. From the study of olive heritage, chosen for its representative quality within Mediterranean identity, a bearer of strong values and symbols yet insufficiently valued in the Euro-Mediterranean, we wish to build an innovative, interdisciplinary and transposable methodology. Starting from a critical approach to heritage, we wish to make visible an often-neglected aspect of rural heritage as well as the stakeholders and communities linked to it, not all of them aware of its social value. OLIVE4ALL highlights the processes of patrimonialisation and of constitution of communities around the olive tree, questioning the concept of heritage. The project proposes an experiment centred on a transmedia device that studies how carefully developed forms of mediation based on narration, sensoriality and digital technology can succeed in raising awareness among stakeholders and audiences far removed from heritage. OLIVE4ALL is interested in devices enabling inclusive access to heritage. Once appropriated, action remains: we will develop specific tools to help local stakeholders dialogue, network, and integrate heritage into the development of their territory. OLIVE4ALL wishes to enhance the value of heritage in society through action aimed at strengthening public policies. The objective of OLIVE4ALL is to demonstrate that by giving more space to heritage in societies, we can respond to the global challenges made all the more urgent by the current health crisis. Enhancing the value of food heritage in European societies serves to raise awareness of sustainable development, in its human, social, economic and environmental dimensions. In order to ensure the widest possible impact of OLIVE4ALL, we are calling on the participation and collaboration of stakeholders, in order to share knowledge, learn from good practices and bring about sustainable changes in order to build the resilient society of tomorrow.

Impacts & Results

  • Creating a heritage inventory of the three countries with the stakeholder mapping;
  • Raising awareness among stakeholders and distant audiences of the value of this heritage thanks to a transmedia system (exhibition, tasting center, documentary, etc.) that emphasizes on the narrative, sensory and multi-media dimensions. These devices will be the subject of public surveys, for research purposes in cultural mediation.
  • Territorial development: the project will explore the possibility of enhancing the heritage, through responsible tourism. It tries to answer how the heritage promotion can help territorial development. Surveys will be carried out in the field while raising awareness among local stakeholders.

The objective of OLIVE4ALL is to demonstrate that by giving more space to heritage in societies, we can respond to global challenges made even more urgent by the current health crisis. The promotion of the food heritage in European societies makes it possible to raise awareness of sustainable development, in its human, social, economic and environmental dimensions.
